Our Easter

06/04/2015 21:38

Our Easter weekend has been about family time, and nothing else. I think all 4 of us have benefited from it in one way or another and although relatively simple, it's been one of the better Easter weekends in my life. Like I told you in my last post we started with baking, eating well and a little retail therapy. Easter Sunday itself involved lots of presents and eating the obligatory roast lamb, but not without a family walk and visiting a lovely little local church. I spent some of my youth living in a picturesque village and I enjoy strolling round them even now - admiring old cottages and church yards.

Today being Easter Monday, we didn't much feel like slowing down with the festivities and visited our local country park for an Easter Egg Hunt even that was put on by Daventry District Council and well backed by the local newspaper who supplied vouchers to make the event a free one. It was both childrens first time attending an Easter Egg Hunt, and although Alice knew nothing about it, Clayton had a great time. The event was really well organised for a freebie and was well attended. It was fantastic to see so many young families enjoying the outdoors together. We registered for the event by the reservoir (the same one, we went puddle splashing alongside a few weeks back) and picked up a question sheet. We followed a trail through the woods and the rest of the grounds at the country park in search of clues to answer our questions. I liked the fact they had themed it this was, as all of the questions were about Easter traditions in England and the history of the day, which made it an educational day for all ages. I even learnt a thing or two.

When we had all of our answers, we exchanged them for a small prize before being let loose in the outdoor play park to search for sweets and chocolate treats. Clayton loved holding the paper as we searched for answers, loved carrying his basket around and loved taking breaks from egg hunting to play in the park. His little smile was enough to brighten up any day (and it did, because although it was a cold foggy morning, the sun was beautiful the rest of the day!).

We did a woodland Easter trail. I'm sure there was nothing like that when I was a child.
