Gro Hush Baby Calmer Review

Any parent that tells you that their child is an angel and is never any trouble is lying. Any parent that tells you that they wouldn't jump at the chance to be given a tool that will help soothe their crying child needs their head looking at. Naturally I of course jumped at the chance. I was skeptical, but I was willing to give it a try and see if it did what it said it would do. Well what did it say it would do?

The Gro Hush Baby Calmer is a unique portable baby calmer that uses the magical powers of white noise to soothe even the most upset infants. It was the white noise part that made me skeptical. There are many white noise emitting products on the market, and in fact I can quite easily create my own with regular household items that I already own. Those options though admittedly disturb me and anyone else in the room. I couldn't focus on reading, listen to music or watch television with white noise filling the room without going crazy. The Gro Hush however said that it would transmit white noise directly to the baby so that only they could hear it. Now I was interested. The Gro Hush is set to emit sounds at 75 decibels. This is important. Scientists have declared that anything above 80 decibels is dangerous for humans to listen to for prolonged periods. 75 decibels is not only a safe volume, but is quiet enough that you need hold the speaker to your ear to clearly hear. At that volume, the claim would be right; the white noise would be heard by your baby and not by you or anyone else. If you dont like the idea of holding a speaker to your babies ear, then fear not for this small handheld device is soft, cushioned and perfectly comfortable to rest a little head upon.

So, how did we get on?

I wanted to really test the  Gro Hush Baby Calmer  and so I waited for the perfect scenario before I even turned it on. I waited for our fed, winded, changed, not too hot, not too cold 4 month old baby to be midway through a melt down. There was nothing obvious that she could be upset about other than needing to sleep or be soothed. In this scenario I would usually resort to a dummy, to resting her on my chest or to rocking her into a slumber. This time, I decided I would do none of those things and use just the Gro Hush. I didn't want to aid it in anyway by combining it with another soothing method. I wanted to see if it really did hush our little one the way it was so confident about that, that was the name it was going by. I switched it on, selected the rainfall option (I could have opted for 2 other forms of white noise in the forms of a heartbeat or crashing waves) and held it by our babies ear. I was amazed! It wasn't instant, but it almost was. I mean, she was red faced, screaming and thrashing one minute and not 90 seconds later she was dry eyed and sleeping. I kid you not!! At a rrp of £34.99, I will let you make your own mind up but this wasn't a one off win and I make it well worth it's full retail price.
