First Olympian Beard Oil Review

21/03/2015 20:34

This is my first attempt at growing a beard, and it's come a long way as it approaches 3 months of growth. The difference in my facial forest since I first introduced you all to it in this earlier post to how it is now is immense. No longer is it neatly pressed to my face. No longer is it quite so easily tamed. I've no experience in the ways of a beardsman and I knew that I needed help. Luckily for me, the customer service at First Olympian is second to none and they've helped me grow to love my beard all the more. They've told me how to treat it, what it needs and how to use the new products.

Dad Beard(My beard 1 month in)

First Olympian are a small, family run business based in Durham, England. They're an artisan fragrance company that specialises in beard care and pride themselves in the small things that matter. Everything they offer is handmade, traceable and produced with a keen and watchful eye on the fine details. What's more, they give back to society and you being one of their customers help them do that. The First Olympian family has a young member that lives with autism and in his honour, 5% of every bottle of beard oil sold goes to the National Autistic Society. For me, that's the perfect justification when parting with cash for a luxury purchase. I say luxury, because when I first ordered from their website that's what it felt like to me - a luxury purchase. After one week using the oils, I can already confirm that it's most definitely not a luxury purchase; it's an essential! No day going forward will my beard leave the house without being fed this new found necessity.

First Olympian Deluxe Beard Care Kit

I purchased a luxury care kit that I was blown away by. A collectors item made up of 4 bottles of beard oil, Japanese adjustable grooming scissors and handmade walnut wood beard comb all housed in a hand-cut, hand stitched English bridle leather roll. It's fast becoming one of my favourite possessions. The four oils are the main focus of what First Olympian are all about, and are four oils I imagine they're very, very proud of. Each oil is focused on a base of the very best organic grade Moroccan argan oil and further enhanced with complex blends of a variety of essential oils and fragrances. They're all exquisite in their own right, and I don't yet have a favourite. The four of them are al different from eachother and suited to different occassions. Here's what First Olympian say about each...

Ares

The Ancient Hymn to Ares tells of his qualities:

"Ares, exceeding in strength, chariot-rider, golden-helmed, doughty in heart, shield-bearer, Saviour of cities, harnessed in bronze, strong of arm, unwearying, mighty with the spear, O defender of Olympus"

Ares signifies the strength, courage and determination of a man, holding fast amid life's myriad challenges, protecting the weak and standing up for his friends, family and beliefs. With the fresh, outdoorsy notes of cedarwood and the smoky base notes of birch Ares Beard Oil is the perfect representation of the adventurous, independent, freedom-loving man.

Key notes: Fresh, smoky and vigilant, with pine forest and alluring leather and smoke undertones.

Suits: The great outdoors, autumn evenings by the fire, time spent under the sky and in the company of your brothers in arms.

Zeus

Peerless Zeus: husband, father, king, ruler of Olympus. For the man of responsibility and gravitas, Zeus beard oil is an intoxicationg blend of Italian lemon, African orchid, petitgrain from Southern France and a host of other  rare oils, herbs and spices, sourced from the finest organic growers around the world. Zeus beard oil is a masterpiece of complexity creating a floral, citrus cologne that is bursting with potential, not unlike Zeus himself. The King of the Gods was the bringer of order and justice. Mature, self-reliant, responsible, but also generous, forgiving and radiating sincerity and warmth. A complex character, reflected in the complexity of this immortal blend.

Notes: wildflowers and lemons with a rich and complex hint of spice.

Suits: the man of maturity, comfortable in his own company, content to keep his counsel and indulge those he loves. A truly confident cologne.

Eros

Eros means "desire" and signifies the loving heart of a man who wishes to enjoy the simple pleasures of his life and to share the good in himself with those he holds dear. With finest Sicilian bergamot and lemon, this classic fragrance captures the warmth and contentment of the Mediterranean sun, and with time, deeper musky notes begin to blossom, giving a sense of intimacy and quiet enjoyment of the moments shared with friends and lovers.

Key Notes: Bright, vibrant, citrus and sunshine with deep, mellow roots.

Suits: Summertime, romantic evenings, time spent relaxing with close and trusted friends.

Hermes

Hermes is the path to the mystery at the heart of life. Understanding this, the creative man seeks knowledge and insight to improve his fortunes and to stay his path, which is no doubt unconventional and subtle. Hermes beard oil is a magical blend of rare and exotic ingredients, sandalwood from the Far East, vetyver - or Indian Khus - alongside the freshness of watermelon and other intoxicating notes. The overall effect is sweet, lively and almost edible with intriguing subtleties that seem to shift with time, revealing ever-warmer and more comforting levels.

Key Notes: Sweet, minty, soft with delicate hints of fruit and balmy autmunal breezes.

Suits: times of industry and application, conversation, debate and camaraderie.

First Olympian Beard Oils

After the very first use of a First Olympian beard oil, my facial hair recognised the benefits. A small amount applied to my beard left it feeling noticeable softer, more manageable and smelling incredible. After a weeks useage, the dry patches in my skin beneath the hair have vanished completely. Rubbing these oils through my facial mane is my new favourite part of my grooming routine, and I always walk out of the bathroom on a high. I had a very important meeting regarding my blog this week and I nailed it and got the result that I wanted. I tweeted that morning 'This scent made for Kings and Gods by @Beardoil_First if filling me with confidence for this meeting' and I am absolutely positive that the oil played a part in my performance that day.

I'm smarter with a beard - for a man stroking his beard is infinite in his wisdom. I'm a better parent with a beard - for a man that comes through the itching phase unscathed is a man that possess much patience. I'm a better man with a beard, and First Olympians beard oils leave me feeling God like in stature. I'm not exaggerating either... Since oiling, I've been complimented every single day on my beard.

Note: I purchased the care kit myself, but in addition I was sent sample bottles of all 4 beard oils in return for this honest review. All opinions are my own and truthful.

I hadn't realised that there were so many products for beard care, but it's clearly paid off because it looks very neat and trim.
